Prehistory and Early History [edit ]
Bisuschio is located in Valceresio which is a wide gap, bright and airy that unfolds between Lake Lugano and the city of Varese . Similar to other valleys in the Varese area, constituted a direct and convenient transit route between the Alps and the Po. In Triassic (220 million years ago), much of the Valceresio Bisuschio and therefore was covered by so-called Sea Besano , whose existence is evidence of the bituminous rocks present in large quantities on the slopes of the surrounding mountains and the many fossils. Evidences of prehistoric life have been identified in various parts of the valley. According to a legend just Bisuschio within intricate woods, where he was sure that there of wolves and bears, it seems that he lived a sect of Druids which provides for the burial of the dead .

whole valley and then passes under the dominion of the Romans that hold for many centuries and resist the pressure of the barbarians (especially Networks, populations of more than Gotthard ), because of the importance it represents as a way of communication. In this period between the end of Roman rule and the barbarian invasions, the small village probably takes its name, which according to tradition derived from Latin Bis - Ustum, meaning "burned" twice, probably the memory of two fires suffered at the hands of Networks and Franks.
also locations across the country have different names that historians have given various interpretations Piamo : derives its name from the Lombard word "Pain" that indicates a portion of non-inclined surface that stops the steepness of a mountainside. Pogliani : probably derives its name from the surname of the family Pogliani. Another hypothesis would come from the noble Roman Publius with the addition of in-ana. RAVASINI : derives its name Ravasio the surname (and this from Rava-Rapa) or similar to the word Bergamo Ravasi = Raptor. Rossaga : derives its name from the noble Roman Roscius sufficco with the addition of-ACA. Zerbi : derives its name from the adjective Lombard Zerbi, which means wasteland. Bridge, perhaps by the presence of a bridge.
seems that in late imperial age Bisuschio exist in a guard tower, but to date they have not been discovered. Surely it is difficult to reconstruct the events that concern Bisuschio until the year 1000, in fact, the first historical documents related to Bisuschio to the first half of the eleventh century and it is primarily land deeds of sale between the Abbey of San Gemolo of Ganna and various locals. Bisuschio was part of the county of Seprio .
Middle Ages [edit ]
From the thirteenth century Bisuschio follows the fortunes of the Duchy of Milan and is granted as a fief, as the whole church before the Arcimboldi and then to Borromeo, Litta , Arese. During this period comes to an Bisuschio Milan by the wealthy family Mozzoni that both change the fortunes of the country.
must have been very wild Valceresio in the second half of the fifteenth century . This was evidenced by the fact that Mozzoni built a hunting lodge bear. In the fall of 1476 the Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza of Milan was invited to a hunt at Villa Cicogna Mozzoni .
Monuments and churches [ change]
This is an example of a "villa of delights" and was constantly inhabited until a few years ago. Built as a hunting bears and wild boars to and during the sixteenth century assumed the existing architectural forms, unless the exceptional gardens, partly settled and partly English with Italian-style staircase and water lilies. Were in fact added later, on separate levels, one per floor in order to rationalize the inputs and extension views. In the arcades traces of frescoes inside extolling the nature and fantastic views of Valceresio : these works Art Camps are attributed to the brothers and their studio. Both environments of honor and acceptance, both private furnishings from different eras, original floors, coffered ceilings. It is without doubt the most beautiful Renaissance house of the entire campaign Lombardy.
- Parish Church of St. George the Martyr.
A note of a document, dated 1565, recorded in the archives Stork Mozzoni reads as follows: 7 magio hath been given to the princes Gies. The construction of this church was ordered by the family Mozzoni , first in the person of Francis, then in the person of his daughter, Cecilia. In 1565 , Bisuschio was still part of the parish of nearby Arcisate , the detachment from the matrix could only take place with a church was decorated: one of its churches, Bisuschio not counted one that would satisfy this requirement. Hence the decision to erect a new church. The dedication to St. George was not random: there was, in fact, in the upper part of the country, near the home of Mozzoni, an ancient church dedicated to the saint, called Monte San Giorgio. Cecilia Mozzoni, with the promise to erect a new religious building, bought the land belonging to the ancient church, which demolished, allowing them to expand the garden of his home and reusing the rubble as a decoration. The new church was built in a completely different position, outside the "walls" of the country, in flat area and this earned her the nickname of St. George at the piano. Now that name has been lost, since it has lost even the memory of the church in the mountain, being simply "San Giorgio". The site chosen, once stood a church dedicated to San Bernardino , built in 1444 , but, evidently, the first fall of 1565. For the new building, they opted for a sober classicism. It was designed in three naves divided by columns of stone Viggiù . During its construction is no shortage of incidents: in fact there was a long suspension of work and a partial collapse. However, in 1603 , the new church was ready by the secondment Bisuschio obtained in Arcisate 1605 and the new church was built in the parish. Despite several interventions over the centuries, the current appearance of the church respects the most part the aspect of time, especially with regard to the interior. The facade is in broad terms, classical: a brief, punctuated by pilasters . Show, however, alterations of eighteenth-nineteenth century, as the frame Baroque above the main entrance, which contains a mosaic (until a few years ago, a fresco by Giuseppe Colombo ) representing St. George and the dragon, the three arched windows, the two "peaks" pyramid side, inspired by neo-Gothic , the two putti supporting an iron cross, right at the top of the gable etc.. Originally there were three altars: the main altar, the altar of the Nativity of the Virgin (left) and the altar of SS . Trinity (right).
Nell ' nineteenth and twentieth century have been added: the altar of the Sacred Heart (right) and the altar of Our Lady of Lourdes (left). In 1872, the facade of the church was "dismantled" and later rebuilt three 3.80 m, and the same happened for the chancel: the church, in fact, was considered too small for the growing numbers of faithful. In this way you could even build the women's gallery , which projects exactly 3.80 m above the main entrance. The interior is still divided into three naves and has, as mentioned, five altars. The current high altar is made of polychrome marble, the work of several nineteenth-century artists viggiutesi. Among the paintings in the church if they can see three, all of the seventeenth century, large. One is the birth of the Virgin, and is placed at the altar of the same name (this is of its original location), the other is the Cardinals Federico and Carlo Borromeo and is at the altar of the Holy Trinity (his original location) and the third depicts St. George slaying the dragon, attributed to Camillo Procaccini, is located on the right side of the chancel. The inhabitants of the community had purchased Bisuschio Milan. Two bisuschiesi: Joseph and Angelo Comolli , father and son, frescoes, among the 1889 and 1893 , Evangelists and other figures on the Old and New Testament times, while the walls were painted a nice shade of blue, with golden designs. Unfortunately, most of these paintings were covered during the seventies with the tempera-colored. The golden decoration on a blue background has only been preserved in the apse , while others have been preserved frescoes on the time aisle more. The floor, also the nineteenth century, is in square slabs of black stone and white Saltrio . In 1818
rested the choir stalls (hemicycle apse) and ' organ, located in the forum to the left of the main altar. Just the organ was restored several times: in 1856 in 1874 and 1927 . In 1928, it was decided to move it and place it in what until a few years ago was its location: between the choir. The department gave its last concert in the late seventies and early eighties. The rupture of a bellows made him dumb, but instead of repairing it, it was decided to dismantle it. The church has two sacristies : one on the right side (the oldest) and one on the left side (the one still in use). The sacristy latest dates from the early decades of the eighteenth century , when, at of its construction, was also enlarged the old one. The furniture in the sacristy are two of the eighteenth century and of very valuable. The bell back to the early seventeenth century : first wore only a bell, carried in 1694, the church of Saint Joseph. In 1652 if they added a second and a third 1671. In 1761 it was decided to bring to four the number of bells: the three in that area led to Milan, where he had already ordered the fourth, to repay them. At that time, he rebuilt the bell tower. In 1810, the bells of the castle was again in bad condition, then the four bells were lowered so they could make the necessary repairs. Began circulating the idea of \u200b\u200bhaving five bells, as it did for other countries in the valley. But Bisuschio not obtained permission to lay the fifth bell. But just before replacing the bells were cracked ... It will not ever find the culprit. They took it to Milan to recast the bell and ordered a fifth. In 1905 , in the third centenary of the parish, they decided to do another concert in serious (current): The five bells brought in Milan, at the company Barigozzi for the merger. As the bells of the old bronze was insufficient, even merged the old English cannon of the past. Towards the beginning of the eighties, the second bell (RE) was cracked and had been removed the clapper to prevent further damage: then did not sound that four bells. In 2005, to mark the fourth centenary of the parish, it was decided to give a concert in Bisuschio five bells. The cracked bell has not been repaired, but was ordered at a new company sheds of Reggio Emilia . The new bell was blessed May 25, 2005, the installation took place July 4, 2005, and the first concerts started July 6. The old bell is now exhibition themselves outside the church.
- Church of St. Joseph. It is located a short distance from the previous year, in the historic center. It is an oratorio on a small scale: it is a single nave, with north oriented to the altar. For many years neglected and forgotten, it was decided to give it new life for the Jubilee of 2000. Work began in 1998 , have allowed us to study more about the history of this chisetta, history hitherto almost unknown. The current shape and orientation dates back to 30 years of seventeenth century, when it was extended at the behest (and expense) of the family Mozzoni Stork, give it as a forum for the School of the Blessed Sacrament, made under license of Cardinal Federico Borromeo in 1627.
